Title and Commencement: These Regulations may be called the Regulations governing the X (Ten) Semesters for Bachelor’s Degree in Law under Semester Scheme.
It is in force from the academic year 2009-2010 with the existing Syllabus. The syllabus pertaining to 5 years BA, LL.B course has been revised from the academic year 2009-2010 as by the Karnataka State Law University.
Duration of the Course: The duration of the course, leading to BA, LL.B shall be of X (Ten) Semesters (5 years).
The Law degree shall be obtained after undergoing a regular course of study in a duly recognized Law College for a minimum period of five years, (10 Semesters). The last six months of the IV & V years of the law course shall include a regular course of practical training.
A student who successfully completes X semesters shall be eligible for the award of BA,LL.B.
The teaching and instruction shall be in accordance with the Bar Council of India rules.
Significance of the Five Year Law Course:
- Student after his Pre-university education can opt for legal education just as some other Professional education at this stage.
- It attracts serious minded students to enter the field of legal education at a very early stage of their educational career.
- This course would be taught only by whole time day colleges or University departments recognized by the Bar Council of India.
- It provides for compulsory practical training for students and also compulsory participation in Moot Courts.
All the above features have been incorporated in the syllabus approved by the Karnataka State Law University.
