PES’s Modern Law College Pune

Progressive Education Society Modern Law College is a reputed and distinguished educational institution in Maharashtra. Honorable, Late Shankarrao Kanitkar, along with his selfless dedicated team of teachers known for the highest moral values, laid the foundation of the Society on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya on 16th May, 1934 in Pune. It was established by five prominent teachers and experts in the field of education.

It was established in the year 1934 by an eminent educationist Prof. S.R. Kanitkar. He was ably assisted by such young and dedicated teachers of proven excellence as Shri. V. T. Tatake, Shri. G.G. Damle and Shri. Koparkar etc. Late Shri. S. R. Kanitkar was the fountain head of inspiration of the persons who joined hands with him in implementing the ideas of starting a new high-school in Pune city.

There are in total 53 Educational Institutions (Ranging from Pre-Primary to Post-Graduation) imparting quality education. It has Distinguished Alumni of Eminent personalities as alumnus. P.E. Society has been making noteworthy progress for the last 78 years.

Aims and the objectives of the Progressive Education Society

The aims and the objectives of the Progressive Education Society as laid down in its constitution are “To impart generally to the rising generations of its country and particularly to the residents of Maharashtra state, an efficient pre-primary, primary, secondary, higher secondary and collegiate education, embodying a literacy, scientific, technical, commercial and Industrial training and the training of teacher by the establishment at Pune and other places in the Maharashtra state, as circumstance permits of pre-primary, primary, secondary, higher secondary schools and colleges or by such other means as may be most conducive to the attainment of the aims and objectives of the society “.

The motto of Progressive Education Society is “EVER TO EXCEL”. The mission statement of Progressive Education Society is “Dnyanamayo Bhava” which is taken from Rigveda.

The objectives of the College:

The Progressive Education Society’s, Modern Law College, Pune, is based on two Latin Maxims “Lex facit Regem”, which stands for supremacy of law even over the king. The importance of law in the life of common man is such that even the framers of the law are not above the law for the time being in force.

Further maxim “Ignorantia legis neminem excusat”, in the simple parlance means ignorance of law is no excuse. The legal system in our country is based on the principle and presumption that all the citizens are aware of law and expected to follow the same, in its letter and spirit.

If the law is stronger than the king himself and the importance of law is such that every citizen is expected to know it, the importance of legal education for every person is beyond imagination.

College Infrastructure

Ramshastri Prabune Moot Court Hall

For conducting of the Moot Court Practical, Modern Law College has separate Moot Court hall called the Ramshastri Prabune Moot Court Hall. It is fully air conditioned with th latest equipemnts of Audio and Visual Devices including LCD Projector.

Shankarrao Kanaitkar Audio Visual Hall

Modern Law College also has the Shankarrao Kanaitkar Audio Visual Hall used for seminar and workshops. The hall has a seating capacity of over 100 audience. It is installed with Audio and Visual Devices including LCD Projector.

Conference Hall

A fully air condition Conference Hall with LCD Projector is use for meetings and conferences.

Class Rooms

Modern Law College building houses well ventilated and spacious Class Rooms for conducting lectures.

Department of LL.M.

Modern Law College has a separate Post Graduate Department of LL.M. The Department caters to the need of LL.M. students.

Placement Cell

The placement cell works towards the object of securing placement and internship with the law firms and companied. This cell is dedicated to the placement activity only.

Staff Rooms

Separate, spacious and well ventilated Cubicles for ladies and gents members of the teaching staff are available. The Staff room is wi fi Enabled for easy access to internet.

Cyber Zone

A Cyber Zone with broadband internet is available, particularly for the students who have research work and preparation of moot court competition. The College has up-to-date computer facility with 16 Computers and one Standalone facility. LAN Facility in the Cyber Zone, Library, Principal’s Cabin, Conference Hall. The computers use genuine Licensed Software Windows.

Canteen

Canteen facility is made available for students and staff. Separate seating arrangements are made for ladies and members of the staff. College also ensures that hygienic foods are served to the students at reasonable rates.

Hostels

Hostel facility is available for the students of Modern Law College. The Students avail this facility at our Progressive Education Society’s Girls and Boys Hostel at Shivajinagar, Pune Campus.

The accommodation for 120 girl students is available. Limited number of seats would be available for the boys in the new boys’ hostel building which is nearing completion. Total 27 rooms are made available separately for boys and Girl students.

The Hostel facility is available at Sir Sasoon David Boys Hostel Shivajinagar, Pune 5 and P. E. Society’s Girls Hostel, Shivajinagar, Pune 5.

Student’s Lobby

A lobby adjacent to the reading hall is provided for wholesome reading experience. It is also Wi Fi enabled for the use on internet by the students.

Common Rooms for Students

Spacious common rooms (Boy’s Common Room and Girl’s Common Room) are made available to the students. All required facilities are provided in these rooms.

Student Vehicle Parking

Separate well constructed parking facility is available for two wheelers for the students.

Staff Vehicle Parking

Separate arrangements are made for parking of two wheeler and four wheeler of the vehicles of staff.

Library

Modern Law College has a spacious and well stocked library. The library admeasures 2380 Sq. Ft. The library is well lit and well ventilated. A Reading room is also provided to the students with a seating capacity of 60 Students.

Reading hall is regularly available to the student for 12 hours (9.00 am. to 5.00 pm.)
