Progressive Education Society’s Modern Law College is a reputed and distinguished educational institution in Maharashtra. Honorable, Late Shankarrao Kanitkar, along with his selfless dedicated team of teachers known for the highest moral values, laid the foundation of the Society on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya on 16th May, 1934 in Pune.

It was established by five prominent teachers and experts in the field of education. It was established in the year 1934 by an eminent educationist Prof. S.R. Kanitkar.

Progressive Education Society’s Modern Law College is situated in Pune in Maharashtra state of India. It is accredited from BCI and it is affiliated to University of Pune.

Courses Offered by Modern Law College

PESMLC, Pune offers 7 courses across 1 streams namely Law and across 4 degrees like BA+LLB, LLB, LLM, Diploma.

What is B.A. LL.B. (Hons)?

BA LLB (Hons) – Full Form (Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Legislative Law (Honours)) is a professional law degree that candidates can pursue right after Class 12. An integrated course, BA LLB (Hons) is of five years duration law programme.

In a BA LLB (Hons) course candidates are taught Arts as well as Law subjects. As part of BA LLB (Hons) course, candidates are imparted education not only through classroom teaching methods but also by means of case studies and moot courts.

BA LLB course students have to study at least 28 subjects whereas in a BA LLB (Hons) course aspirants have to give minimum 36 law papers.

Eligibility Criteria:

10+2 or 11 + 1, School Examination or equivalent with not less than 45% marks (Students taking qualifying examination in March/April are also eligible to apply). Concession of 5% is awarded to the students belonging to reserved category.

What is LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws).?

Legum Baccalaureus or LLB is a Bachelor of Law degree that is offered to aspirants by many renowned colleges in India. However, candidates can pursue this law course only if they possess a graduation degree. LLB course offered at all law colleges of India is regulated and closely supervised by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

LLB course is of three years duration and the law programme is structured in such a way that the course curriculum is divided into six semesters. Candidates are awarded an LLB degree only when they complete all the semesters of this three year course.

As part of an LLB course offered at most popular law colleges in India, candidates need to take part in regular theory classes, moot courts, internships as well as tutorial work.

Eligibility Criteria:

Admission Procedure

Law Entrance Examination –

MH – CET (LAW) for B.A LL.B. 5 Years Course and MH – CET (LAW) for LL.B. 3 Years Course.

B.A. LL.B ( 5 Years Course) and , the candidate seeking admission must appear for the Law Entrance Examination of MH – CET (LAW) for B.A LL.B. 5 Years Course, Entrance Examination Conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra Government.

LL.B., ( 3 Years Course), Law Entrance Examination of MH – CET (LAW) for LL.B. 3 Years Course, Entrance Examination Conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra Government.

Admission Procedure For B.A LL.B. (5 Years Course) , LL.B. (3 Years Course)-

Admissions are at the sole discretion and decision of the Management of the College only. All admissions are provisional, to be confirmed by the Principal / Management and the Admissions Committee. All admissions are subject to further approval by the Savitribai Phule Pune University.

Admission shall be given on first come first serve basis as well as on merit of each student.

Documents to be submitted-

Students must bring at the time of the admission the Original and Two attested copies of the following documents; failing which he /she shall not be considered for admission.

Statement of marks of the qualifying exam (HSC/Degree or equivalent).
Passing Certificate.
The Statement of marks of SSC (Xth) or equivalent examination. If the HSC certificate (XIIth ) does not have the date of birth then certified copy the Birth-Certificate.
A student coming from a College affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune Unversity or Maharashtra Higher Secondary Board must produce a Transfer Certificate and School Leaving Certificate from that College/Board and School. A student coming from any other University or Board must produce a Migration Certificate, a Transfer Certificate or School Leaving Certificate from the University/College/Board/School.
Domicile Certificate (where applicable).
Three Recent passport size recent color photographs.

Moot Court Hall

Ramshastri Prabune Moot Court Hall

For conducting of the Moot Court Practical, Modern Law College has separate Moot Court hall called the Ramshastri Prabune Moot Court Hall. It is fully air conditioned with the latest equipemnts of Audio and Visual Devices including LCD Projector.

Placement Cell

The placement cell works towards the object of securing placement and internship with the law firms and companied. This cell is dedicated to the placement activity only.

Mostly, students were offered campus for practicing in the court under the seniors. Various IT companies are having campus selections for the well-qualified students. Various students conduct and prefer to practice. The salary offered by various companies starts from 4.2 lakhs to 5.5 lakhs annually. A majority of students goes for the internship.

Modern Legal Research Centre

Modern Law College has established a legal research centre with the name of Modern Legal Research Centre to inculcate research qualities and social awareness amongst the students by conducting research activities.

Modern Law College although established in 2003 and is one of the newest law colleges in Pune city. Nevertheless we are the only new law college to have established a Research Centre and have undertaken a Savitribai Phule Pune University sponsored minor research project.

It also provides a platform for the teachers and students to engage in research activities and understanding the practical aspect of law and the problems and perspectives of socio legal issues. The MLRC also undertakes Research projects sponsored by the Savitribai Phule Pune University.
