What is BA LLB?

BA LLB or Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law is an undergraduate Administrative Law professional degree course. The duration of the course is five years on integrated basis. It covers the study of Arts subjects like History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, etc., along with the in-depth study of law and legislature.

Scope of BA LLB

The LLB is a law course degree. This is a profession where one should have a brilliant communication skill and presentation skill. Law is a set of rules and regulation under which a society or country is ruled. Law is one of the essential parts of a country and it also preserves the human rights and obligations.

According to the specialization, the lawyers are categorized under criminal lawyer who is concerned with the robbery, murder, rape cases etc., and a civil lawyer who is concerned with the human rights of a person.

Duration/Eligibility of BA LLB

It is a five-year integrated BA LLB course, if you have qualified 10+2/higher secondary school examination/intermediate examination or equivalent and have an urge for legal field, you can look in for the five year integrated BA LLB course. The common entry to Bachelor of Arts + Bachelor of Laws [BA LLB] goes through entrance exam. The entrance tests for this purpose are CLAT, LSAT, and AILET. After entrance, some institutes also conduct personal interviews for final selection.

Entrance Examinations for BA LLB

The top entrance exams for BA LLB are:

AILET: Conducted on the first Sunday of May every year, this exam is a national level exam and its scores are largely accepted everywhere. The questions in this test are asked from Current Affairs, English, Reasoning, Mathematics and Legal Aptitude.

CLAT: Conducted on rotational basis by 17 NLUs in May, this exam is meant for admission in law course. The syllabus for this test encompasses Current Affairs, English, Reasoning, Mathematics and Legal Aptitude.

LSAT: This paper pencil bases entrance test is conducted by LSAC for admission in various law programs across the country. This 2 hours 2 minutes long test is held in May. The syllabus for this test encompasses Analytic reasoning, logical reasoning and reading comprehension.

Selection Process for BA LLB

The selection process goes through two routes: direct admission and entrance tests. The institutions taking direct admission select the students on the basis of merit list.

The institution that prefer entrance test as admission accept the scores of entrance test for law programs like CLAT, AILET and LSAT. Some universities like may conduct their own entrance test.

After clearing the entrance, some institutes may require the qualified candidates to appear for interview for selection process. Finally, a counseling procedure takes place and seats are allotted on the basis of accumulated scores.

General Syllabus for BA LLB

As far as syllabus is concerned since BA LLB is integrated course the students study law papers right from the first semester onwards like Law of Torts, Consumer Protection Laws, Law of contract etc. These law related papers and English is compulsory but the students can choose papers form Political science, History, economics, sociology etc.

In the second semester they study Jurisprudence and Special contracts. Like that in every semester there are some papers from the Law field. After 3 years, that is 7th semester onwards the BA papers are taken as major and minor and there are other papers of law like Business law, international law etc.

Variants to BA LLB

The 5 year integrated LLB degree now has many variants also like there are B.Com LLB, B.Sc LLB and BBA LLB is also available. Just like BA LLB integrates Arts subjects with Law the other courses integrate the subjects from the respective fields with law courses.

Career & Placements after BA LLB

As per the course structure of BA LLB, an internship of 20 weeks during the five years period is compulsory for all students. It can be done with in courts, assisting Advocates, NGOs, Administrative Authorities, Local-Self Governing Authorities Commissions, Tribunals, and Legal Firms etc. Legal Departments of Public & Private Companies are also considered.
