About BMS College of Law Bangalore

BMS College of Law was established in the year 1963 by Sri. B S Narayan, under the ageis of BMS Education Trust. The Trust is named after Dharmaprakasha Rajakaryaprasaktha Sri. B. M. Srinivasaiah, whose vision brought about the foundation of the first private Engineering College in the State of Karnataka?

The College is affiliated to Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) and is approved by the Bar Council of India, New Delhi. The BMS College of Law is situated in the heart of the city.

Course offered

Legum Baccalaureus or Bachelor in Laws is an undergraduate 3 or 5 year professional degree course that allows a person to practice law. The degree is offered for 3 years for graduates and 5-year for students who wish to pursue law after senior secondary examination.

Bar Council of India (BCI) is the regulatory body of Legal Education in India. Both, holders of 3 and 5-year degree are eligible for enrolment with the Bar Council of India upon fulfilment of eligibility criteria.

In the early days, the career in Law was confined only to legislative executives and judicial services. But now the opportunities are diversified and ample opportunities are available in the fields like media, intellectual property rights, information technology and data protection. Apart from this, Law students find the career in the corporate firms, banks.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission

An applicant who has successfully completed Pre-University course or Senior Secondary School Course (‘+2’) or equivalent such as (10+1, ‘A’ level in Senior School Leaving Certificate Course) from a recognized University/Institution of India or outside or from Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognized by the Central or State Government/s of India or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the Government of that Country for the purpose of issue of International qualifying certificate equivalent to 10+2 on successful completion of the course, may apply for and be admitted into the course.

The minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination shall not be below 45% of total marks in case of general category applicants and 40% of total marks in case of SC and ST applicants.

The maximum age for seeking admission is limited to twenty years in case of general category of applicants and to twenty two years in the case of applicants from SC, ST and st other backward communities as on 1 June, 2014. There is a Writ Petition pending at the Supreme Court of India regarding the maximum age limit prescribed for admission and the same will be subject to the status/condition/the final judgment by the court, on the date of admission.

Admission Procedure

Admission to the course shall be made strictly on the basis of the merit taking in to account total marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Provided that while making admission to the course reservation policy of the Government of Karnataka governing admission to higher educational institutions issued from time to time shall be applied.

Placement and Training Cell

BMS College of Law has a Placement Committee that works closely with a number of law firms, chambers, corporate and government bodies to assist the registered students to connect to legal employers during the final year of studies. “Interface”, an annual placement initiative for the students exposes them to the diverse requirements of various legal sectors.

Placement Cell conducts various activities and workshops to teach professional ethics, analytical thinking, social responsibility and management of challenges faced in professional life and various other skills such as group discussions, the mock interview that are required during placement drives. Seminars and talks from professionals of various firms are conducted to give an exposure to opportunities and challenges. For any student in need, Career counselling is provided to choose the right domain.
