M.S. Ramaiah Foundation was established by Dr. M.R.Pattabiram with same set of core values and principles imbibed from his Inspiring father Sri. M.S.Ramaiah.

It has been separately established under the auspices of M.S.Ramaiah Foundation. RILS is committed to uphold the values enunciated and practiced by Sri. M.S.Ramaiah and in the process strive to meet the expectations of all stakeholders.

M.S.Ramaiah Foundation established – “Ramaiah Institute of Legal Studies” (RILS) in 2016. RILS is headed by Dr. M.R. Pattabiram, with over 30 years of rich academic exposure.

RILS as a growth initiative, and to cater to the increasing demand for globally competent legal professionals.

RILS has qualified and dedicated faculty with excellent state of the art infrastructure, computer labs with latest software and teaching aids.

A well-equipped library enabling creation of a “Competent Legal Professional Asset” to the legal fraternity and society at large.

RILS extends its domain of providing quality education in the field of Law. RILS has distinguished Advisory Council Members, professionals from national and international legal services.

Legal Education:

  • The concept of legal education in India goes back to the Vedic age when it was essentially based on the concept of Dharma. The Kings either used to dispense justice themselves or appoint Judges to administer justice, not necessarily trained in law but who were known for their righteousness and justness and had the reputation of being fair and impartial.
  • According to Brihaspathi Smrithi, there was a hierarchy of courts in Ancient India beginning with the family Courts and ending with the King.
  • The lowest was the family arbitrator. The next higher court was that of the judge; the next of the Chief Justice who was called Praadivivaka, or adhyaksha and at the top was the King’s court.
  • The gurushishya parampara has existed ever since Vedic era making education an integral part of human development.
  • Education which ultimately results in shaping or transforming the whole society ‘Law is the cement of society and an essential medium of change’.
  • The significance of legal education in a democratic society cannot be over-emphasized.
  • Knowledge of law increases one’s understanding of public affairs.
  • Its study promotes accuracy of the expression, facilitates in arguments and skill in interpreting the written words, and understanding of social values.
  • A five year integrated programme leading to award of dual degree BBA-LLB of Karnataka State Law University (KSLU), Hubli.
  • This combination will provide opportunity in industry / corporates in managing legal aspects of all the facets of business.

Challenges for Legal Education:

  • Changed scenario the additional roles envisaged are that of policy planner, business advisor, negotiator of any interested groups.
  • Era of Globalization, legal systems in India include catering to the needs of new brand of consumers, foreign companies and collaborators.
  • Strengthening our legal education system is needed to face the new challenges.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants should have passed +2/ PUC or equivalent with a minimum of 45% marks. 5% relaxation is given to SC/ST candidates.
  • Reservation as per Government of Karnataka regulations.
  • Applicants who have passed from PU Board other than Karnataka, should obtain eligibility certificate from Karnataka a State Law University, Hubli, through RILS.
  • Applicants should have qualified in any one of the entrance examinations – CLAT, LSAT, AILET or RILS entrance test

Admission Process:

  • Admissions are through invitation only. Candidates are encouraged to apply on-line.
  • Short listed candidates will be called for a personal interview. The final decision for admission will be based on the academic record and performance in personal interview.

About Moot Court:

Is an extracurricular activity at many law schools in which participants take part in simulated court or arbitration proceedings, usually involving drafting memorials or memoranda and participating in oral argument. In most countries, the phrase “moot court” may be shortened to simply “moot” or “mooting”.

Purpose of Moot Court:

  • The main purpose of mooting is to establish a good overview by the students of law and enhancing the legal skills. Mooting is a concept where there is a mooting proposition which is related to any law related subject which is given to all the teams in advance so that they can prepare for that in the form of a memorial which tests and helps them in their researching skills and sticks to the deadlines.
  • It teaches the students how to work under pressure with the goal to give productive output. Mooting helps in understanding and developing and inculcating the capacity to argue passively before the judge.
  • Mooting helps in raising your chances to be get hired for a job as well. As when you sit in a job interview the employer will look in your resume that if you have done mooting before then, the chances of you being hired in a company will be more as the employer will be willing to invest in you and train you as he wants higher productivity from skilled people.
