The College, situated in the heart of the city, was started during the academic year 1963-64 under the aegis of the BMS EDUCATIONAL TRUST.
The Trust is named after Late Dharamaprakasha Rajakaryaprasaktha B. M. Sreenivasaiah, whose philanthropy resulted in the establishment of the First Engineering College under the Private Management of the State of Karnataka.

- BMS College of Law was established in the year 1963 by Sri. B S Narayan, Donor Trustee, BMSET, under the ageis of BMS Education Trust.

- The College is affiliated to Karnataka State Law University (KSLU)
- Approved by the Bar Council of India, New Delhi.
- The Moot Court Society is started every year. That is the only society or club that the students get to be a part of. The society is formed to help organize and host the Inter-college Moot Court Competition.
- The official College Fest was organized for the first time in 2017 which I got to be a part of. They have made this a yearly event. The college fest is organized in the even semester.
- The sports fest is also organized every year. Law colleges all over the state participate in the BS Narayan Memorial Sports events.
- Teachers Day, Freshers’ day, Ethnic day, College day are some of the exciting events that are conducted every year in which every student can participate in.
- The life in college is pretty great. When the academics get hectic we have the other events to distract ourselves with. It is an amazing opportunity to meet like-minded people who may turn into friends for life.

An applicant who has successfully completed Pre-University course or Senior Secondary School Course (‘+2’) or equivalent such as (10+1, ‘A’ level in Senior School Leaving Certificate Course) from a recognized University/Institution of India or outside or from Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognized by the Central or State Government/s of India or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the Government of that Country for the purpose of issue of International qualifying certificate equivalent to 10+2 on successful completion of the course, may apply for and be admitted into the course
The minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination shall not be below 45% of total marks in the case of general category applicants and 40% of total marks in the case of SC and ST applicants.
The maximum age for seeking admission is limited to twenty years in the case of the general category of applicants and to twenty-two years in the case of applicants from SC, ST and st other backward communities as on 1 June, 2014.
There is a Writ Petition pending at the Supreme Court of India regarding the maximum age limit prescribed for admission and the same will be subject to the status/condition/the final judgment by the court, on the date of admission.

The BMS College of Law has a very strong interaction centre and a full-fledged Training and Placement Cell. Placement Committee works closely with a number of law firms, chambers, corporate and government bodies to assist the registered students to connect to legal employers during the final year of studies. “Interface”, an annual placement initiative for the students exposes them to the diverse requirements of various legal sectors.
Placement Cell trains the students through group discussions, mock interview, Seminars and talks from professionals of various firms. For any student in need, Career counseling is provided to choose the right domain. Students are encouraged to take up internships, part-time jobs and volunteering to enhance skills and ability to work professionally.
