PES’s Modern Law College Pune
Progressive Education Society’s Modern Law College, is based on the two Maxims ‘Ignoranti Juris neminem excusat’ and ‘ Lex facit Regem’. ‘Ignoranti Juris neminem excusat’ meaning Ignorance of Law Excuses no one. The Legal System in our country is based on the principle and presumption that all the citizens are aware of law and are expected to follow the same, in its letter and spirit.
One of the reasons, besides social obligations is depicted in the vision statement o the P.E.S Modern Law College, Pune. The strength of legal education is also found in the maxim ‘Lex facit Regem’, which means Law makes the King. If the law is stronger than the king himself, the importance of law and legal education in the life of a common man, is beyond imagination. The Progressive Education Society established Modern Law College, Pune with the vision to provide quality based legal education.
Vision Statement:
Vision statement of the parent Progressive Education Society, Shivajinagar, Pune is imbibed in the Sanskrit statement, transliterated as “To develop Legal, Logical and Ethical Youth for the benefit of the Society”
Mission statement:

- “To create multidisciplinary best citizens to suit the local, national and international needs, having legal temperament, moral, ethical values and multifaceted proactive personality, by providing excellent education”.
It is inscribed at the top of the logo which is given below:
The letters P.E.S. i.e. Progressive Education Society (the Parent Body) are inscribed in the Centre. The vision is to remain ‘Progressive’ and ‘Modern’, hence all institution run by the Progressive Education Society have a prefix ‘Modern’ such as in, Modern Law College, Modern High School, etc. At the foot of the logo is ‘EXCELSIOR’, an expression of incessant aspirations of higher attainment.
The objectives of the College:
The Progressive Education Society’s, Modern Law College, Pune, is based on two Latin Maxims “Lex facit Regem”, which stands for supremacy of law even over the king.
The importance of law in the life of common man is such that even the framers of the law are not above the law for the time being in force. Further maxim “Ignorantia legis neminem excusat”, in the simple parlance means ignorance of law is no excuse.
The legal system in our country is based on the principle and presumption that all the citizens are aware of law and expected to follow the same, in its letter and spirit. Under Graduate Courses
B.A. LL.B. (5 Years Course)
Eligibility Criteria
10+2 or 11 + 1, School Examination or equivalent with not less than 45% marks (Students taking qualifying examination in March/April are also eligible to apply).
- Students who have cleared Law Entrance Examination of MH – CET (LAW) for B.A LL.B. 5 Yers Course, Entrance Examination Conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra Government. Concession of 5% is awarded to the students belonging to reserved category.
Duration: 5 years
L.L.B. (3 Years Course)
Eligibility Criteria
- Graduation from any stream or equivalent with not less than 45% marks. (Students taking qualifying examination in March/April are also eligible to apply).
- Students who have cleared Law Entrance Examination of MH – CET (LAW) for LL.B. 3 Years Course, Entrance Examination Conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra Government. Concession of 5% is awarded to the students belonging to reserved category.

Rules and Regulations
- Title of the Course: LL.M. Course
- Preamble of the Syllabus: Master of Law is a Post-Graduation course of Savitribai Phule Pune University. The credit system to be implemented through this curriculum, would allows students to develop a strong footing in the fundamentals and specialize in the disciplines of his/her liking and abilities. The students pursuing this course would have to develop in depth understanding of various aspects of the subject.
- Eligibility: The candidate should have completed B.A.LL.B. /LL.B. (Bachelor Degree of Law).
- Admission: Admissions will be given as per the selection procedure/ policies adopted by the respective college, in accordance with conditions laid down by the Savitribai Phule Pune University. Reservation and relaxation will be as per the university rules.
- Instructions for the Students
Internal Assessment:
- It is a continuous evaluation process.
- The Internal marks will be evaluated on the basis of the following i.e. attendance, punctuality, practical skills, and oral skills etc., Assessment of internal work will be conducted before conducting External examination.
- Longish Term Paper will be evaluated by the examiners the same college and the dissertation will be evaluated by one internal and one external examiner
